TERRY JEAN — DOUBLE FROST MOON

Jetty-Wash · VSOP (Very Special Original Pair)

Price: $1,298
Edition: VSOP — One-of-One Archival Garment
SeaWash Observation Year: Winter 2024

OVERVIEW

This Terry Jean is a Very Special Original Pair, submerged through the closing weeks of the 2024 season during a rare Double Frost Moon cycle. As Nantucket braced for winter, this garment remained lashed to the jetty—exposed to cold Atlantic water, shortened daylight, and extended periods of stillness.

Unlike summer or shoulder-season SeaWash denim, winter submersion preserves indigo depth. Cold temperatures slow dye release, reduce oxidative bleaching, and soften fibers without stripping color. The result is a quieter, denser wash—defined by restraint rather than contrast.

This pair documents the final pull of the season.

SEAWASH RITUAL — FIELD NOTES

Wash Classification: Jetty-Wash — Winter Submersion
Total Duration: 56 days submerged

Initial Submersion: Late Autumn 2024
Primary Exposure: Double Frost Moon Cycle
Final Extraction: Early Winter 2024

  • Average water temperature: Near-freezing Atlantic conditions

  • Daylight: Shortened winter days, low solar arc

  • Location: Outer jetty wall, Nantucket Sound

Conditions:
Jeans were secured directly to a tidal structure and left to move minimally with winter current. Reduced daylight and still skies limited UV bleaching, while cold saltwater softened cotton fibers slowly and evenly. Repeated freeze-thaw exposure and tidal pressure shaped the surface without high abrasion.

DENIM OBSERVATIONS

  • Preserved indigo depth across seat and leg panels

  • Muted, low-contrast fades shaped by shortened daylight

  • Subtle vertical salt traces from extended submersion

  • Dense tonal variation rather than high-contrast whiskering

  • Surface texture softened without fiber breakdown

The wash reads deeper, darker, and quieter—consistent with late-season SeaWash behavior.

REPAIR & INTERVENTION

Following extraction, this pair received hand-executed chainstitch repairs and structural patchwork, applied only where the fabric demanded reinforcement.

  • Chainstitch repairs follow natural stress lines formed during prolonged submersion

  • Patchwork responds to wear, not symmetry

  • Repairs remain visible as part of the garment’s documented history

These interventions are functional, not decorative—preserving the integrity of a garment already shaped by time and tide.

LUNAR CONTEXT

Double Frost Moon:
A rare late-season lunar pairing occurring as winter approaches, marked by colder nights, still air, and reduced solar exposure.

Seasonal Effect:
Shortened days preserved indigo saturation while near-freezing water softened fibers gradually. The wash reflects the season’s restraint—less erosion, more depth.

FINAL NOTE

As the island turned inward for winter, these jeans remained in the water—held by cold, shaped by time, and released only when the season was finished.

This is not a run.
This is not a repeatable process.
This is a Very Special Original Pair.

Once sold, it will not be made again.
