Description
TERRY JEAN
Washed to Order · Worn by the Sea
The Terry Jean is washed to order using Lunasalt’s OYSTR SeaWash—a controlled aging process carried out in a working oyster cage at sea.
Each pair is cut, sewn, sealed in an oyster bag, and suspended in tidal water. Salt, current, sun, and time soften the denim and shape its character. Every jean is numbered and hand-marked by the maker, documenting its placement.
No two pairs are the same.
THE OYSTR SYSTEM
All Wash-to-Order denim is aged in the same oyster cage.
Placement is controlled. The rest is not.
Where your jeans sit within the cage determines how much light reaches the fabric, influencing tone, contrast, and rate of fade.
EXPOSURE
LOW (RESERVED)
Placed deep within the interior of the cage with minimal direct light.
Results in darker indigo and slower evolution.
MEDIUM (WELL BALANCED)
Placed in mid-level rows with filtered light and steady movement.
Results in balanced fades with depth.
HIGH (RADICAL)
Placed along the outer edges or top of the cage where light is most direct.
Results in lighter indigo and higher contrast.
FABRIC
U.S. SELVEDGE
Current-production American selvedge denim with consistent weight and durability.
WHITE OAK SELVEDGE (CONE MILLS)
Original selvedge denim produced before the mill’s closure. Limited and non-replaceable.
SIZE
Select your standard size.
All Wash-to-Order garments are cut and sewn before entering the sea.
MAKER’S NOTES (OPTIONAL)
A space to share anything you’d like us to know before your jeans go to water.
Notes are read.
Placement and finishing remain at the maker’s discretion.
STRUCTURAL WEAR
Wash-to-Order denim may experience wear during the process, including fraying or tearing—particularly in high-stress areas.
After removal from the sea, each pair is evaluated. When needed, areas of wear may be stabilized or repaired by hand at the maker’s discretion.
Variations resulting from wear and repair are considered part of the garment, not defects.
FINISHING & TIMELINE
After removal from the oyster cage, each pair is:
-
Brushed and cleaned by hand
-
Sun-dried in ocean air
-
Evaluated, numbered, and documented
Please allow 2–3 weeks post-harvest for finishing before shipment.
