This is a proper English rugby shirt: heavyweight orange cotton jersey, made in England.
It has a green cotton twill collar and a placket lined in Burberry’s Nova Check, with white rubber rugby buttons. The embroidered crest on the chest shows the Equestrian Knight and “1856,” the year Thomas Burberry opened his first shop. Reinforced panels on the forearms and bar-tacked side vents point back to the shirt’s roots on the pitch.
The cotton has faded to a warm, washed orange that looks better with age. Wear it with selvedge jeans and boat shoes, or over a white tee on a cold harbor morning.
