Details

This mineral-wash teal tee is printed with the stars Polynesian voyagers used to find their way across the Pacific without instruments.

On the front, a small chest print shows a voyaging canoe under a sail, with “Hawaiian Navigational Stars” arched above it. The back carries a full star chart. It marks Hōkūpaʻa, the North Star; Nā Hiku, the Big Dipper; and Hōkūleʻa, the “star of gladness” that gave its name to the famous voyaging canoe.

The wash has gone soft and cloudy, and the white print is cracked and faded in places. Some of the star names are only partly legible now, which adds to the shirt’s character.

The fit is boxy and relaxed, and it looks good with jeans. It’s for anyone who navigates by something other than a phone.
